Modffractal

MODR MAIN
MODR MAIN 2

Overview

The Modffractal is part of the evolution in architectural acoustics toward aperiodic sequencing of asymmetrical shapes and provides full spectrum sound diffusion in a single integrated diffusor. To achieve this, the self similarity property of fractals was combined with the uniform scattering property of a phase optimized sound diffuser. This unique and patented design expands the bandwidth and offers the broadest spectrum of sound diffusion available while also allowing optimized array sequencing for further improved performance. The Modffractal is a furniture grade, natural wood sound diffuser designed to provide a more uniform sound field through mid and high frequency sound diffusion while limiting the amount of sound absorption.

Finish

The Modffractal is available in a wide variety of finishes, including wood veneer, laminates, melamine coatings and painted surfaces. See some of the options displayed under the Finishes tab below.

Installation

The Modffractal can be mounted to a wall or ceiling surface with the provided wood cleats. Due to it’s depth, it is often recessed into a wall or ceiling cavity. See details below under the Drawings tab

Modffractal 1D Nested Wood Sound Diffuser

In an effort to provide the next generation of full spectrum sound diffusion in a single, integrated sound diffusing panel system, the self-similarity property of fractals was combined with the uniform scattering property of the Modffusor (an asymmetric, phase optimized sound diffuser) to produce the Modffractal. This unique and patented acoustical design offers the broadest spectrum of sound diffusion available and supports the movement in architectural acoustics toward aperiodic array optimization of asymmetric units. The Modffractal comes in a wide variety of finishes, including wood veneer, laminates, melamine coatings and painted surfaces. It can be mounted on wall or ceiling surfaces by attachment to a provided wooden cleat. Due to its depth, it is often recessed into a wall or ceiling cavity. The standard unit size also allows for it to lay into a standard, reinforced T-Bar ceiling grid.

Problem

The bandwidth of diffusion demanded by a sound quality critical space such as a concert hall, recording control room, mastering room and high fidelity listening environment is beyond what most sound diffusing products are capable of delivering.

Solution

The Modffractal is the next generation of sound diffusing panels that utilize a fractal design philosophy in combination with an asymmetric, aperiodic base shape. It consists of nested, similar scaled diffusers, each of which covers a specific frequency range and offers wide area coverage without lobing effects. The Modffractal contains two nested sound diffusing elements, thus forming a diffuser within a diffuser. Each diffuser provides uniform scattering over a specific range of frequencies so that the effective bandwidth is extended. The Modffractal can be further customized to extend into lower frequencies by either perforating the wells to add low frequency absorption, or by nesting the unit into a larger cabinet that is a larger scale version of the unit. In addition, the Modffractal follows the movement toward asymmetrical diffuser design and supports aperiodic array optimization this makes the Modffractal the top performing product in its category.
